Hi! My name is Alishia and I am a KraftaholicMommy!
Cardstock is what I thrive on in my craft room. I always try to make sure that I have a sufficient amount on hand for any project that I could possibly want to make. When you have a stockpile of something, you need to have a place to store those materials. So, I thought that today, we could talk about how I store some of my items.
For my cardstock, I am currently using a filing cabinet to store my paper. I have been working on the husband to build me a paper wall, however, he has been a busy man. I simply have the paper that separated out in little file folders for easy grabbing. I want to be able to grab without really thinking about where things are. I love crafting, not hunting down supplies.
In the filing cabinet with my cardstock, I have in the top drawer a few things. One, is a spot for all of my scrap paper. From there, this has become the storage for my embossing powders and my wood mounted stamps. Also I have my extra acrylic pads and Sizzix Multipurpose platform.
I wanted to have those things kind of out of sight. Let’s face it, once you start crafting, you tend to collect quite the mess of scrap paper and you don’t want that just being out and about for a six year old to see. The field day that boy would have on my scrap stash would be insane.
From there I have a second filing cabinet that contains a few goodies as well. The first drawer contains my Tim Holtz Stamping tool, my large banner trimmer, my container for my thinlits and die cuts, my extra pack of white cardstock, envelopes, extra cards, and acrylic blocks. This drawer may sound like a hot mess, but that is because, well, it is. The final drawer contains two containers. One holding my paper punches, and the other containing all of my clear stamps from different stores. There are stamps that I keep on hand on the top of my desk, for easy and quick access for the simple fact that I use these stamps so much. In an adorable bin that I found at Family Dollar, I have my stamps from My Favorite Things and my MayMay Made It set. I have been using these sets a lot here recently and wanted something that would hold them, versus them just laying on top of my little drawer sets. I am notorious for losing things if I don’t have a little spot for them. I have to combat that issue by having little spots for every little thing.
Speaking of the top of my desk. My husband, the sweet man that he is, built me a nice “L” shape desktop. He used my two drawer filing cabinets as part of the legs and then built the rest of the supports from extra wood that he had on hand. So I have on my desk ready for use, my Sizzix BigKick with two cutting pads and my magnetic platform. I have two little three drawer containers that I found at Walmart. In those is a hodge podge of little supplies; my ink pads, my reinkers, my paint pens, markers, pencils, adhesives, rhinestones, washi tape, and all of my tiny supplies. This is a very handy little set of drawers and I love having them.
Now that I am filming YouTube Tutorials, I have cleaned out one of my adorable containers for the videos. Before I start filming, I fill that little bin with all of my supplies that I will need for the video so I won’t have to stop filming to grab stuff. I love using the little container because it keeps everything in one spot.
Having my calendar on my desk is also a very important part of my desk. This is where I put everything that I am doing in one spot. Yes, I am old school that way. I still carry around with me a little calendar to keep track of all of my appointments and meetings. All of my dates and keeping track of those dates is very important to me. When I was younger I didn’t think it was very important to have that. I told myself I could remember everything. HAHAHA what a silly goose I was. If it weren’t for both of my calendars and my calendar on my phone and iPad, I would never remember a thing! Between church cleaning days, church events, family get togethers, Monkey’s activities, my husbands schedule, my schedule, and life in general, I am lucky I can remember what day it is, much less remember what I am needing to do and when.
