Hi! My name is Alishia and I am a KraftaholicMommy!
I am still not back to my insane crafting self, but I thought I would talk about crafting during my recovery. The best medicine for a sick crafter is at least talking crafts.
I thought I would give all you lovely people a peek into the insanity that is my mind. I wanted to talk about a few of my methods for picking out what crafts I do.
The first thing I figure out is what kind of project I am wanting to make. In the case of my niece, I knew that making her a blanket would make her happy, but it would not be exactly what she would love. I am very blessed to have nieces and a nephew that are so grateful for whatever they receive. While that is a blessing, it is also a curse. They will be grateful for things they don’t even like. Now, with a blanket crossed off the list, I moved on to other things. I considered making her some curtains to go in her room, but when I thought more about that, I thought it would be more of a gift for her mom than for her. I thought about making her a backpack, that would make an awesome thing for her to have for school. However, the school year here is almost over. Her birthday is in May and our last day of school is at the end of May. I know, you are thinking, “Well she can use it next school year.” Well, she starts homeschooling next school year. I doubt there will be a need for a backpack.
I started thinking about gifts I have made for her in the past that she absolutely loved. I remembered that I had made her several little purses and how much she adored them. Thinking about how long ago I had made them, I thought maybe making her some new ones would make her happy. I could fill the purses with makeup and nail polish. She loves getting dressed up and feeling like a princess. All set with a direction, I decided to hit the web and figure out what patterns were out there for purses.
I have downloaded a couple from Yarnspirations, which look to be quite promising. I have also downloaded several from other sites, just to have more options. For me, crocheting up purses shouldn’t take too long, so I have time to really look at each pattern and decide which one I want to make. I also get to decide if I want to make more than one. I am leaning towards making two, so she can rotate them out. I will also be able to put all of her makeup and nail polish in one purse and fill the other one with bath stuff.
When I start looking at my paper crafting supplies, I always go in with an idea of colors. For instance, my grandmother will be celebrating a birthday in April. I know my grandmother loves lavender and different shades of purple. So, I will be doing a card working with those colors. I will also be including flowers as she loves flowers.
For my brother, I will be going a bit more rustic. I know that I have a few embossing folders that are wood grained and that will go nicely with a couple of stamp sets that I have on hand.
When I make cards, I try to stick with colors that the person receiving the card likes. I also try to incorporate things that they like. For example, if they like flowers, I try to use those.
Anytime I work on gifts for others, I always start the process with them in mind. I think about the. Things that they like and work based on that. I work my colors based on the colors that they like.
What are some of your favorite gifts to give? What are some gifts you are working on? How did you decide to make that gift? I would really love to read about them.
Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you enjoyed today’s post. If you did, feel free to give this post a like, comment, or share. Until next time,
