Hi! My name is Alishia and I am a KraftaholicMommy!
Today, I was planning the project for tomorrow and I got to thinking about adhesives. As this project calls for a ton of hot glue, I thought I would give my thoughts on adhesives. I know, it sounds like this is going to be boring, but “stick” around, it’ll be fun. Get it? Haha
Hot glue! I have quite a love/hate relationship with this stuff. First off, I refuse to buy an expensive hot glue gun. Well, I should say, that I have not found an expensive hot glue gun that is worth the price. I love working with hot glue for several types of projects. My son and I will occasionally pull out the hot glue gun and make some neat designs and paint them to have cool little do-dads. I also love using hot glue for flower arranging. I like putting little strips of ribbon or burlap around the vase and hot glue makes it stick the best. However, I can not stand those little hairs of hot glue that usually comes with using a hot glue gun. I tend to only use a hot glue gun if it is to make a cute little project with my son or if the project would work best with it.
Super glue is my least favorite thing to use for crafting. I barely tolerate it for non crafting things. I just put it on this list because it is an adhesive.
E-6000, this stuff is amazing!!! I love using this adhesive for just about all of my crafts with metal or plastic. This stuff works really well and holds fantastic. I always make sure I have at least a tube or two in the crafting supplies. If you haven’t tried it for your plastic or metal projects, try it, you won’t be disappointed.
Quick sidebar, I am writing this and Lionel Richie’s Stuck on You keeps playing in my head.
See, I told you we would have fun.
I have been really loving Elmer’s Tape Runner for my cards and other paper crafts. This adhesive really helps me get my pieces put together and it stays on well. I am not a huge fan of how easy this thing falls apart. I like the adhesive though.
Speaking of cards, I absolutely adore Stampin’ Up’s, Stampin’ Dimensionals. They pop up little pieces like a jewel on display! I can just about guarantee you that every card I make is going to have something popped up with a dimensional or six. These little guys truly do bring your card to another level. The only place you can buy these guys is on Stampin’ Up’s website. Now, to forewarn you, if you only buy these, you are not going to like the price of shipping. I would suggest buying a few things to make that $6.95 shipping fee feel a bit less hefty.
Perhaps, think about getting TomBow glue when you get your dimensionals. TomBow glue can also be bought at JoAnn Fabrics and Crafts and the price is not all that bad. I enjoy using this glue when I am putting a large piece on the base of my card. This glue dries really fast and it also dries clear. I love that about this glue. I really don’t like if the glue smooshes (yes, I said, smooshes) out of the sides of my paper and dries white. That color on a dark colored base paper is really unflattering for the card. You won’t have to worry about that problem using TomBow.
I love using Mod Podge! Wait, did she just say Mod Podge? Yes I did, because Mod Podge can be used as an adhesive. Also, I do pictures on blocks and I sometimes don’t do photo transfers. I know, it’s insane, but I like to mix things up, because I’m a KraftaholicMommy. I will use Mod Podge on the back of the photo, adhere it to the top of a block. I will allow it to dry and then using that same Mod Podge, I will coat the top of the picture. I have also applied a thin layer of Mod Podge to the edges of a block, poured glitter over the edges, allowed to dry, and applied a layer of Mod Podge over that. Two things happened with those projects. One, I noticed that the glitter sticks amazingly well to Mod Podge. Two, by adding that top coat of Mod Podge, I prevent the problem of glitter getting everywhere when the project is done.
While adhesives are a boring topic, they are a very necessary part of our lives. I hope you enjoyed this short post, if you did, feel free to give this a like or just drop a comment.
