Hi! My name is Alishia and I am a KraftaholicMommy!
Y’all, I love my yarn! I have to have it, in every color, in every nook and cranny of my house. Yarn has to be close by. So, what yarn do I use? There are several different brands of yarn that I love.
Allow me to first explain that I am a picky person, not because I want to be, because I have to. I have eczema on my wrist and hands and using yarn that is a little scratchy or rough, makes that feeling even worse. So, I tend to stick with baby soft yarns that don’t aggravate the already aggravating condition on my hands.
To begin, I will talk about a yarn that I have already mentioned on this site, Caron Simply Soft!!! Oh how I love, love, LOVE this yarn. It is so soft, the color selection is absolutely amazing, and did I mention that I love this yarn. I have been making Jonna Martinez’s Virus blanket with this yarn and it is turning out so lovely! Caron Simply Soft is a worsted weight yarn. This simply means that is about the average thickness that most projects call for. I am giving that definition in the most simplistic form for those who don’t crochet or are hoping to understand what it means when someone announces the weight of a yarn. It is an acrylic yarn, which I have found for me, helps with blocking. Stay tuned, I will be devoting a blog in the future to yarn crafting terms. Now, basic information aside, this yarn is amazing. I love how easy it is to work with and I love that there are so many colors that I can work with this yarn on just about any project. I do however, have one wish for Caron Simply Soft. I should also sidebar here and clarify, when I say they have a ton colors, this does not include variegated colors. Variegated, for those who don’t know, is when the skein has multiple colors. I know that Caron has come out with Caron Cakes, which is awesome, for people who don’t have skin conditions such as myself. It would be absolutely amazing if Caron could come out with a line with Simply Soft, like their cakes. I would probably break my bank account buying up that yarn!!! Who is with me on that? Overall, I love Caron Simply Soft and I can’t get enough of it!
The next yarn that I love using is from JoAnn Fabrics and Craft, Sweet Premier Sweet Rolls. This yarn is variegated in an array of options. This is another worsted weight, acrylic yarn and I love it! The way it is spun, there is not as much splitting the yarn as you get with looser spun yarns. Splitting, like when your hook goes through the yarn instead of around it. I really like using this yarn for Corner2Corner blankets or if I am making dish cloths or trivets. I enjoy working with this yarn because you have long stretches of one color before you get another, allowing you to enjoy each color change. This yarn I have noticed has the flaw in the fact that it is expensive. JoAnn’s is amazing with their coupons and they do put this yarn on sale often which combats the expense issue when it isn’t on sale. I love that! I love that this yarn also is very easy to block. I enjoy crocheting many projects with this yarn. I currently have a second project going which includes this yarn. I am making a large Corner2Corner blanket for my husband.
For a majority of my baby booties and wash cloths, I enjoy using Peaches and Cream cotton yarn. Worsted weight and 100% Cotton. This yarn is durable and there a ton of colors to choose from. I enjoy the ease with which this yarn works up on the hook. I have worked with other cotton yarns that were rigid and rough. You will not have a problem with that using this yarn. I will admit, once I make what I need with this yarn, I don’t use this yarn for long periods of time. So, I don’t crochet with it often. However, it is my go to yarn when I am wanting to work up a pair of baby booties. Seeing as a few friends of mine are expecting, JoAnn, I am coming to see your aisle with the Peaches and Cream!
These are my go to brands of yarn. It’s a short list, I know. I don’t use most brands of yarn because of texture. If I find it scratchy or rough, I know I would not personally want to wrap up in a blanket with that, so I pass getting it. I am that weird lady you see in the craft store, feeling up the skeins of yarn and rubbing them on my face. I am also not above giving them a good sniff. Every time I am near yarn, I have to touch it. I am not shy about how I feel about it either. I go through the aisles and touch each skein of the new yarns coming out as well, how else am I going to find out if I will like a yarn if I don’t feel it up?
I would also like to mention that I live in a rural area, it is about thirty miles one way to my closest craft store. When I go, I am there for hours! I want to make sure I see every single skein of yarn they have to offer so I can make sure my yarn stash is always full. That being said, if you have found a yarn that you think is amazing comment below and let me know about it. I am always happy to find new yarn.
So, what is your favorite yarn? As always, if you like today’s blog, feel free to give this a like or comment down below and let me know! Until next time,
Thank you and God Bless!
